With more than 5.5 million UK nationals living outside of the UK, UK expats are being urged to register to have their say on whether Britain should exit the EU.
Registered overseas voters will be able to vote in the upcoming referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union. The referendum will take place on Thursday 23rd June 2016.
If you are a UK citizen living abroad, you can apply to be an overseas voter. To qualify, you must have been registered to vote in the UK in the last 15 years and be eligible to vote in UK parliamentary general elections.
If you want to vote the clock is ticking and you must do so no later than May 16th 2016. Once registered you must apply to vote by post or by proxy. You may register online in the same way as UK residents at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
Just over 30 million Britons voted in the last general election. This is a sizable group that both sides in the EU referendum must be hoping would fall their way.
